GO TRAVELING TEMPORARY HOUSING SOLUTIONS:
"Homeowner's Insurance Standard Policies covers a place to live while the repairs or the re-building is going on."

Keep hotel receipts – if you cannot return to your home because structurally it is unsafe or local law enforcement or other government agencies have banned occupancy, keep receipts for other accommodation costs. Many policies cover “loss of use” of a home and reimburse these additional expenses. Storage expenses and furniture rental, food, and car rentals may also be covered. Read your policy carefully though, some coverage may be exhausted in extreme cases after a long period of time.

  • San Diego County:

Our hearts go out to those who have loss their homes due to the Southern California Fires.

Go Traveling homebase is located in Chula Vista. We know first hand how you feel. The Harris Fire was less then a mile away. Our families went through the evacuation process and during that time we realized how very stressful it was to relocate family, memories, and life.

Some San Diego Residents who had to evacuate, did not have an alternative home to evacuate to. So in the midst of an emergency evacuation some had to search for hotels in San Diego.

In the wake of the firestorm, local news coverage announced San Diego hotels were booked to it's maximum capacity, and evacuees were out of luck in securing a hotel. Some evacuees stopped at three hotels and called several more, but all were booked, forcing them to Qualcomm the Evacutaion homebase. This is the first time we experienced this disaster in this magnitude.

In the future Go Traveling will offer services to help locate temporary housing for those in need when your home is unoccupiable.

We assist in the search for temporary housing for stays of 30 days and more, with a International and U.S. database!!

For San Diego Fire Evacuees, this is a free service.

    HOMEOWNER'S INSURANCE DEFINITIONS:
What does "loss of use" coverage mean?
"Some place to live while the repairs or the re-building is going on."

     Print

Loss of use coverage is very important, and it is something that is frequently overlooked when people seek out insurance. It's something they don't even know they have.

For example, if your home cannot be occupied because you've had a fire, or because the roof was blown off in a hurricane, where are you going to live in the interim? You might move in with family if you are lucky, but odds are you might have to go into a hotel for a while.

You might even have to rent a house if there was significant enough damage so that the replacement of the home is going to take months and not days. If you have loss of use coverage, the insurer will pay for your additional living expenses.

They will pay to put you up in another property, either in a rental or a hotel of some sort. If you have lost personal property, for instance your clothes, and all you have left after a fire are the clothes on your back, the insurer could issue you a check to go out and try to refurbish your wardrobe. If you depend on your computer to live your life, and you have lost your computer in the fire, they will pay to replace it.

Most essentially, "loss of use" means loss of use of the home. If I have to go somewhere else, and it's going to cost me extra money, the insurance is not only going to pay to re-build or repair your home, but it's also going to pay so that you have some place to live while the repairs or the re-building is going on.- Interview Credits, Sam Friedman, Editor-in-Chief, National Underwriter, Property & Casualty Edition/www.videojug.com
